Study notes

How AVERAGEIF and AVERAGEIFS works

  • What does AVERAGEIF do?

AVERAGEIF averages only the rows that match something:

=AVERAGEIF(where to look, what to match, what to average)

  • How is it different from SUMIF?

The three parts are the same as SUMIF. SUMIF adds the matching numbers up; AVERAGEIF adds them up and divides by how many there are.

  • What about several conditions?

AVERAGEIFS works like SUMIFS: the range to average comes first, then pairs of a range and what it must match.
