How NETWORKDAYS works

  • What does NETWORKDAYS do?

It counts the working days between two dates: Monday to Friday, leaving out weekends and any holidays you list. Both the start and end dates count if they are working days.

    =NETWORKDAYS(B2,C2,$F$2:$F$5)

  • Why not just subtract?

=C2-B2 counts every day, weekends included, and leaves out the start day. For a two-week job that's 13 days instead of 10.

  • How do holidays work?

List the holiday dates in a range and give it as the third part. A holiday that falls on a weekend is only skipped once. Lock the range with $ so it stays put when you copy the formula down.

  • What if the weekend isn't Saturday and Sunday?

NETWORKDAYS.INTL lets you choose which days are the weekend, for example Friday and Saturday.

  • How do I find a date some working days away?

=WORKDAY(B2,10,$F$2:$F$5) is the date 10 working days after B2, which is how most delivery and deadline dates are worked out.
